School Board Meeting

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

Board Members Present: Fr. Bob, Sr. Zachary, Nancy Pagley, Patricia Prodonavich, Jodee McGraw, Brian Prus, Jordon Wolf, Tim Presi

Call to Order:  7:03 p.m.

Opening Prayer:  Sr. Zachary

Principal’s Report:

  • On Wednesday, January 9th Grades 6-8 will have a retreat day.  Fr. Terry meets with each class for an hour and the in the afternoon the whole group meets in Kyle Hall.  The students experience skills of getting along with each other.
  • The 2nd quarter ends on Friday, January 12th and Report Cards will go home next week on Friday, January 18th.
  • Our enrollment as of today is 207 and 152 families.
  • Grade 1 is planning a Social Justice prayer service on Friday, January 18th at 1:30 p.m. in Church in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday (no school on Monday, January 21st in his honor).
  • Tuesday, January 15th is our annual Geography Bee for Grades 5-8.  This event takes place in Kyle Hall at 8:15 a.m.  The parents of the grade representatives are invited to attend.  Mrs. Kruse and Mrs. Lackinger are the coordinators.
  • A completed schedule of Catholic Schools Week events will be sent home next week.  This year the theme is “Catholic Schools Light the Way” January 27 – February 1.
  • Good News!  We passed our 3- year AHERA Inspection, which took place on December 13, 2007.  I received the report during Christmas break.

Pastor’s Report:

  • Upcoming Finance Council meeting will be on January 24th at 7:00 p.m. in Parish Administration Center.  The meeting will include a representative from Our Lady of the Ridge.  We will be reviewing their success in reducing their school tuition for stewardship families.  Nancy Pagley asked if she could attend this meeting.  Fr. Bob said yes but to check with Mike Benoit to confirm.

Old Business:

Texas Hold'em:

  • Next tournament will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. in Kyle Hall.  Flyers are going in the bulletin this week and we have been running this in the bulletin for the past few weeks.  Patricia will see if she or Jessica can get St. Peter Damian parish to announce the date of the tournament at masses this coming weekend.
  • Patricia will ensure that all concessions needed be ready before 5:30.  She will drop off the water, beer, wine, and soda on Friday evening.  There will be no additional items added to the concessions and prices will remain the same as the last tournament.
  • Need to check with Nancy Disparte and the PTC to see if we can borrow their cash boxes again.
  • Nancy Pagley and Nancy Disparte will manage registration.  Lisa Saviano will be asked to assist as well.
  • Brian will be painting some of the chips another color to serve as the $500 chips as needed for the end of the evening.
  • He will be contacting all of the dealers from the last tournament to ensure there are enough dealers present.
  • We discussed the prizes to be given out.  We agreed that we would award prizes for the final table of 8 players.  One of the prizes may be a coupon for a free admission to the next tournament in April.
  • Brian will also look for some hand held poker games or other small prizes that could be given out as well.
  • The top prize will again be $1,000.
  • Jodee will create coupons for the free admissions.

SIP

  • No update.  Next SIP meeting will be held on January 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the School Library.

Market Day:

  • No Report.

PTC:

  • No Report.

Sports:

  • Sister has received Mary Alice Benoit’s resignation at the end of the year from her current role as Athletic Director.  We discussed how we should try to replace her.
  • Tim will speak to her to find out is she has any suggestions on possible replacements or will find out what the job entails so we can begin to help identify potential candidates.
  • Fr. Bob suggested that this will take personal calls from the Board to fill this role.

Computer:

  • No Report.

New Business:

Catholic Schools Week: 

  • Jodee and Nancy have already completed the majority of the marketing for this event.  The bulletin announcements were sent to all Tri-Village parishes and SJE.
  • Invitations will go to SJE Religious Ed. students and offer a 10% reduction on first year tuition for new incoming students in grades 4-8.  St. Peter Damian Religious Ed. students will receive invitations as well.
  • We have opted to not pay for the 1/8 page ad in the local paper this year.
  • A flyer will go out next week to the school families asking for donations for the Open House. 
  • Past graduates will be speaking at all masses the weekend of January 12 & 13 to encourage people to attend the Opening mass and Open House.
  • For the day of the event, Nancy will make sure everything is ready while everyone is at mass.
  • After mass, Jordon and Patricia will handle the registration area and Jodee and Tim will handle the food and drinks.  Brian has agreed to be the mascot for the Open House.  Sister will be giving the tours.  All other Board members can fill in as needed and assist with clean up.
