Building Oversight Committee:

  • B.O.C. has been inspecting the boiler system at the school.  They have discovered that the current system is running 24/7 thus making the classrooms hot and costing the school thousands per year.  B.O.C. has come to School Board and PTC to request that the heating system be updated to keep costs down and make the classrooms comfortable.

  • Several bids have come in to set up a new system that would have timer controls, calibrate the system, clean grilles and coils, etc.

  • The current cost to do this phase is $10,750.00.

  • Once the system is running smoothly, the next phase would be implemented.  The second phase would be to air condition all classrooms.  The projected cost for that phase is $57,000.00.

  • Father Bob has suggested that a letter be sent via mail to all school families to explain the situation and that donations be sent to the school instead of the church.  A letter will be presented to Fr. Bob and Sr. Zachary for approval.

Principal’s Report:

  • Terra Nova Tests for Grades 3, 5 & 7 were mailed to the parents of those students.  A copy of the local/national averages was sent home to all school families.  Our students did very well.

  • The State of Illinois Transportation Reimbursement forms for the 2007-2008 school year have been sent home and need to be returned by June 4, 2008.  You can expect your check in the mail before Christmas 2008.

  • Check the May Calendar for upcoming events (Walkathon, DARE Graduation, Guys & Dolls, Jr., World Tour/State Fair, PTC Benefit Night at McDonald’s, etc.).

  • Kindergarten Graduation is on Thursday, May 29th and 8th Grade Graduation is on Saturday, May 31st.

  • Even though the school year doesn’t end until Wednesday, June 4th… our End of the School Year special mass will be at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, May 30th for Grades 1-8 (the Kindergarten students are welcome to attend with their parents).

  • Our last day of school will be on Wednesday, Jun 4th with an 11:30 a.m. dismissal for SUMMER VACATION.  Report Cards will be distributed on this day.

  • The 7th/8th Grade class trip will be on Wednesday, May 28th to Chicago… visit to the Chicago Board of Trade, sights of the city, lunch at Millennium Park, tickets to see the Blue Man Group, dinner at Navy Pier, etc., and home about 8:30 p.m.  Yes, there will be school the next day!

  • Yesterday, I received a $1,000 check from Abitibi Recycling Corporation for reaching our goal of 37.23 tons of paper (October 1 – March 31).  Thank you to the school/parish for helping us reach our goal.  Keep saving recycled paper to help us reach another goal (May 1-August 31).  This check will go towards the school air condition fund.

  • Today, I received a check for $7,693.63 from the State of Illinois School Safety & Education Block Grant for the 2006-2007 best of three months attendance of our students for that school year (214 x $35.88 = $7,693.63).  The money has to be used for the health/safety of our students.  Grades 1 & 2, the School Offices/Workroom/Teacher’s Lounge will have the floors re-tiled this summer which will give us an Asbestos Free School for the 2008-2009 school year.  The rest of the money will be used for classroom flashlights, safety supplies for emergencies, etc.

Old Business:

Texas Hold’em:

  • Trish will contact Irene to see if she can again call all the previous players to remind them of the June tournament.

  • School Board needs to help out again for this last tournament.  Jessica has said that she will be out of town on vacation that weekend.

  • Trish will get the food and refreshments for that evening.

Walkathon:

  • Jodee has collected a total of $10,048.12 just over the projected goal.

  • Jodee will also need for School Board members to be there on Friday, May 16th to help out with the event.

  • Fruit donated by the Greco Family will need to be picked up and cleaned prior to the start time.

  • Water has been donated by Ultra for all students.  Michelle Johnson will pick up the donated ice.  Several coolers will need to be brought in and water bottles will need to be labeled for each student.

New Board Members

  • Edyta Stykowski has been unanimously voted into the School Board.  She has children in grades 4th and 7th grades.  Her goal is to help the School Board with her experience in fundraising.

Fundraising:

  • The school needs to minimize the fundraising events currently available to school families.

  • Possibly combine PTC and School Board so that school families are not overwhelmed with all the fundraisers available to them.

  • A possibility would be to have all fundraising monies to be a line item and then have the remainder go to PTC functions.

  • Also set up a few more Texas Hold’em dates for next year.  Brian will contact Sr. Zachary for dates available.

Adjourned:  9:25 p.m.
