  • School hot lunches are not down with an increase of 10 to 15 more students.  Our Hot Dog Day went very well and we will try it again in December.  We are trying a new pizza vendor, Sir Nick’s, instead of Pizza Hut.  Sir Nick’s pizza is a thinner crust.  No complaints, everyone seemed satisfied!

  • I applied/registered our school for the No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools for the 2009-2010 school year on October 23rd, the deadline was November 3rd to register.  More details later.

Pastor’s Report:

  • Tina will no longer be acting as Business Supervisor.  Her new title will be Bookkeeper.  Larry Rybicki has been selected to take the Business Supervisor position.

  • A Finance Council member will be assigned to the School Board in January to go over the budget for 2009-2010 school year.

  • If everything goes according to plan, the parish offices will move back to the Administration Center in January.  Unfortunately, it was not in time for some December events.

  • The Archdiocese has delayed the construction project.  The permits have been received.  However, the engineers from the diocese and the city have not come to an agreement on the construction plan.

Old Business:

SB Goal Setting for 2008/2009:

  • The goals for School Board are:  1) Revise the budget structure (such as not including fundraisers as line items).  2) Involvement program needs to be revised (such as parking lot attendants, lunch moms and deleting non-essential tasks).

School Survey:

  • A survey will be sent out to the school families with specific questions regarding what they would like to see improve at the school.

  • Trish will come up with the questions to be asked in the survey.  She will then have Fr. Bob and Sr. Zachary review the survey for approval.

Trivia Night:

  • Trish has typed a preliminary “Hold the Date” letter that will to out to all families.

  • This event will be advertised to all school families and parish members.

  • Jessica will contact Fr. Tom Hoffman and ask if we can advertise our event in the church bulletin.

  • A group of St. John parents and teachers will be attending St. Mary Margaret’s Trivia night on Sat., November 15th.  They will gather information and report back to School Board.

Market Day

·        The month of October had a profit of $407.47 with 72 customers.  This was a decrease of $208.96 and a decrease of 34 customers.  This dramatic decrease was due to the Scholastic Book fundraiser Market Day held last October.  There was no fundraiser this year sponsored by Market Day.

·        In years past, Market Day has provided a gift card to be given to the family with the highest number of pie sales.  Unfortunately, Market Day is no longer offering this incentive to the schools participating in the Pie Fundraiser.  Because of this, I find it necessary to change the prize structure of our current fundraiser since all of the prize money will now need to be taken from our profits.  (I was not made aware of this until after I had distributed my information letter to the school families.)

·        This will be the new prize structure.  I will be sending a note to parents this Wednesday, November 5th with the new information.   If your family sells just 6 pies . . .every student in your family will receive an OUT OF UNIFORM pass.  If your family sells 10 pies . . .your family will be put in a drawing for a cash prize worth $25.  If your family sells 14 pies . . . your family will be put in a drawing for a $35 cash prize.  If your family sells the most pies . . .your family will receive a cash prize worth $50.

Sports

  • Sue Igielski has reported that the Sports committee is operating in the black again this year, with a small amount (under $500) to transfer into next year’s budget.

  • Volleyball season has come to a close.  The 5G had a season of 5 wins and 5 losses.  The 7G had 4 wins and 6 losses.  They will get to compete in the Big West Tournament on Nov. 8th.

  • A basketball meeting was held with all coaches to discuss rules, equipment, etc. for the season.

  • We have 4 teams, they are as follows:  5G coached by Paul Christian and Frank Saccameno, 6G coached by Mike Benoit and Lyle Alt, 7B (includes 5th, 6th, 7th) coached by Mike Koletsos and Pete Reinhofer, 8B coached by Larry Gradisher and Matt Disparte.

  • All coaches said they took Virtus training.

  • Practice will start on Nov. 10th.  They will be held at Canton on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (unless there is a scheduled game).

  • Practice for the girls’ teams will be from 7 – 8 p.m. and 8 – 9 p.m. for the boys’ teams.

  • SJE will host games at Canton on 12/10, 12/17, 1/9, 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6 (pack the place for 7B and 8B), 2/20 (pack the place for 5G and 6G).

  • Official schedule was finalized at a Big West Conference meeting.  Currently waiting to get a copy of the schedule with all the latest changes to post on the website.
