Sports Update

October 15th

Volleyball

Volleyball season is well underway and will be wrapping up in a couple weeks.  We will host only two more regular season games this year at Canton Middle School on the following dates:

Friday, October 17th

Monday, October 27th

All games begin at 7 p.m.  Please come and support our teams!  Complete practice and game schedules, including scores, can be found on St. John’s website ( www.stjohntheevangelist.net ).

As a reminder, our 7th grade volleyball team will be participating in the Big West Conference play-offs on Saturday, November 8th at the Schaumburg Community Center.  The play-off will be pool play style.  Our 7th grade team will be assigned a pool and play 3 games.  The best team from that pool advances to the next round of the play-off. Good luck to our 7th grade girls.  Go Tigers!

Basketball

We are fielding four basketball teams this year.  A 5th grade girls’ team, a 6th grade girls’ team, a 7th grade boys’ team (made up of 5th, 6th, and 7th grade boys), and an 8th grade boys’ team.  Practice will begin November 10th at Canton Middle School.  Full practice and game schedules will be posted on the website once the schedules have been finalized.  The game schedule should be finalized by early November.  We will host games at Canton Middle School.  The basketball season will last through March and will be completed before spring break.

A reminder for those that have not paid the $90 registration fee, the money is due as soon as possible.  Please send a check into school, attn: Sue Igielski.  If you have a problem making the payment, please contact Sue Igielski at 630-497-0221.

Coaches

A member of the sports committee will be contacting coaches for the basketball teams this week.  A basketball coaches’ meeting will take place on Monday, October 20th at Canton Middle School.  We will meet in the hallway in front of the gym.  At this meeting we will discuss rules, practice schedules and times, uniforms, registration fees, and answer any of your outstanding questions.  The meeting will be held at 7pm.

Coaches are required to have VIRTUS training through the diocese.  If you do not have training, please log into http://www.virtusonline.com/virtus/ for more information.  If you have already taken VIRTUS training, please contact the school office so they can update their records.  NOTE: We cannot allow anyone to coach that does not have VIRTUS training.
